As of this month Cumberland Cigar Co. is no longer in business. We’ve had a fabulous two and a half years being downtown St. Marys cigar destination but due to the recent rise in taxes I just can’t do it anymore. This is not a decision that I’ve come by lightly. I have had the most fun with Cumberland Cigar. The friends I made and experiences that I had are priceless.

I want to thank every single person who has shopped, helped or just visited us. You all made a big mark on my life.

What am I going to do now? Well, I’m staying in my same shop location and turning it into a soap and body care shop. In my previous life (as in before losing Ed) I used to make and sell my own line of soaps, body wash, scrubs ect.

So, I’m going back to that.

Updating will be slow until I figure out how to manage my time more efficiently or I figure out how to fit 26 hours into a 24 hour day. Since I’m not a super hero – I don’t see that happening anytime soon. So what’s new?

Well, this coming Saturday all of St. Marys will be gathered downtown for the yearly Mardi Gras parade and celebration. Good food, crafts, art and games = fun for the whole family.

Cumberland Cigar will be of course open and bustling. Everything is 20% off so come get your smokes and enjoy the festivities while relaxing in the sunshine.

The shop survived the economic impact of a very dim Christmas shopping season. Our New Year’s Eve sale was a smash and really gave me some much needed encouragement to hang on and not entertain thoughts of throwing in the towel. I love this shop and have no plans to go anywhere but boy are these some trying times.

So, yeah -SCHIP. All I can say is at least the floor tax got axed. That would have put me and many many others in the industry completely out of business. It does mean that prices are going up everywhere. To keep up, I’ve simplified a few things and really found our niche here at Cumberland Cigar. Hopefully these changes will ensure a long life and bright future for the shop.

The humidor is going to start looking a little different. While I’ll still be carrying many classics such as Romeo Y Julieta, Montecristo, and H. Uppman I will be concentrating more on boutique cigars from smaller more independent cigar companies like Buccanero, Viaje and The New Orleans Cigar Factory. My goal is to carry a broad range of cigars that can’t just be found trhough the internet or catalogs. So, when you come to my shop you have the chance to try something truly new and unique.

We will be getting a lot more loose pipe tobacco and pipes in the coming months. I’ve already added a few new blends to the line I currently carry. Pipe tobacco can be a very ecconomical way to enjoy the pleasures of smoking. Of couse I’m still carrying a pretty decent selection of the Drew Estates Acid line. Infused cigars such as the very aromatic Acids are definitely an aquired taste. Judging by how fast they sell though it seems a lot of you really like them. In stock now are favorites like Deep Dish, Blondie, Kuba Kuba and the Tobak Especial in both light (very Kalua like) and dark (coffee) with the new special being for every 30 bucks in Acids you buy – you get a green “Che” hat for free.

As for other flavors:
I brew these up myself and they’ve been a hot ticket since the first jar of Rum Especial. Honduran long filler cigars naturally flavored in house with high quality spirits. Current flavors are:

These were so fun to watch being made and we hated to see them go.

Now it’s getting closer to our yearly tryptophan nap as thoughts of pumpkin pie and football entice us into the coy comforts of the season. For me that means getting to wear tights again, drink hot tea and smoke nice dark maduros. I love living in the South during this time of year. It’s just cold enough to let us forget the heavy weight of Summer but not so much that it makes life miserable.
